TANA TAKES A TIGER'S LEAP IN PROVIDING ADDED VALUE FOR CUSTOMERS

The Finnish company Tana Oy, renowned for decades as one of the leading manufacturers of landfill compactors, launched its first slow speed mobile waste shredder towards the end of 2005. The evolution of the TANA Shark range of shredders has been a fast one. The latest generation – in the shape of the TANA Shark 220 D – is being launched at the moment.

Both of Tana’s product lines have some unique technological features diversifying them from competitors and supporting the customers in developing more cost-efficient processes. Tana Gx series waste compactors with their full-width drums and rigid frame produce a uniform and even surface with fewer passes and less cover-soil required. Tana Shark waste shredders are unique in versatility able to treat most recyclable and recoverable waste fractions and to produce the widest particle size variation on the market. Just to highlight the most important cost-efficiency factors.

As a novelty, Tana is also offering an optional GPRS-based Remote Management System (RMS) for the TANA Shark 220D, as well as TANA Gx landfill compactors. Machines mounted with a transmitter can be connected to a vehicle control system via a CAN bus or other communications port and a GSM antenna. This will enable a remote connection to machines to be opened wherever Internet access is available, to provide a readout of fault codes, machine usage history, logged data, and in the future also changes of configuration parameters, and download software updates.

The customer benefits can be categorized in three different stages. Stage 1: Quicker maintenance and technical support! The new system enables Tana to provide more accurate and up-to-date support to customers by saving time, simplifying trouble-shooting, and ensuring more machine uptime. Stage 2: Ease in cost calculations! Customers will be sent a monthly operational report of each machine automatically to their e-mail. The report includes e.g. total working hours of the machine, idle hours, load ratio and fuel consumption per operator if required. Stage 3: Tana RMS production assistant! In compactors customers can with an additional GPS module follow the realisation of the filling plan on the TCS-panel in the cabin. For shredder customers the monthly report will be complemented with information on the throughput and capacity of the machine.
